GRANDPARENTS, PENSIONS AND CHILDCARE

Tabled by Glenda Jackson (Labour) 65 signatures

The motion

That this House celebrates the contribution which grandparents make to economic and social life throughout the UK; knows that grandparents are often the chief source of flexible and committed childcare, enabling parents to return to and remain in work, such care commonly combined with caring for vulnerable elderly relatives, friends and neighbours; and therefore calls upon the Government to strengthen the carer's element in the Pension Reform Bill, thus ensuring that grandparents of working age who undertake such care, to the detriment of their own earning capability, receive proper protection of their own pension provision.
