PENSIONER POVERTY AND PUBLIC SERVICE AGREEMENTS

Tabled by David Taylor (Labour (Co-op)) 103 signatures

The motion

That this House is concerned at the plight of the two million pensioners living in poverty in the UK; notes the detrimental effect of low income on the quality of life of older people, as highlighted in recent research published by the Help the Aged; further notes that many older people from excluded groups are particularly affected by poverty and often struggle to get basic necessities; believes that the Government must continue and strengthen its work in this area; and calls on the Government to make the reduction of pensioner poverty a key component of any older people's Public Service Agreement at the next Comprehensive Spending Review.
