ARRESTS IN ZIMBABWE

That this House condemns the murder in Highfields on 11th March 2007 of Gift Tandare, a Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) activist, by agents of the Zimbabwean regime, and the arrest and brutal treatment in custody of MDC President Morgan Tsvangirai and many other leaders of the Save Zimbabwe Campaign coalition; and calls on South Africa and all other African Union member states to condemn in unequivocal terms the widespread violation of human rights in Zimbabwe and to take immediate steps towards restoring the civil rights and democratic freedoms of the people of Zimbabwe.
