FOR DEMENTIA AND THE LAUNCH OF ADMIRAL NURSING DIRECT

The motion
That this House welcomes the launch of the Admiral Nursing Direct telephone line to provide support for family and informal carers of dementia sufferers; commends the work done by For Dementia in launching Admiral Nursing and enabling 48 nurses to work in the community and other healthcare settings; commends the work done by these nurses in offering advice, support and information to family carers and health professionals who look after those suffering dementia; notes that more than one in 10 people suffer from dementia, around 700,000 people in the UK alone; further notes that 21 per cent. of households have an informal or family carer providing essential services to relatives and loved ones; further notes with concern the high level of stress, anxiety and mental ill health suffered by those caring for friends and relatives with dementia; further welcomes this new service developed by For Dementia to provide telephone information and support service for family carers, people with dementia and healthcare professionals; encourages any such work which enhances co-ordination and co-operation between voluntary organisations, local authorities and NHS organisations; and calls on the Government to ringfence more funding to enable primary care trusts to fulfil the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence's Dementia Care Guidance and provide services such as those offered by Admiral Nursing Direct.
