PROPOSED DEVELOPMENT IN MORPHOU

Tabled by Mr Edward O'Hara (Labour) 23 signatures

The motion

That this House notes with concern reports in the Turkish Cypriot daily press that the administration in Turkish-occupied Cyprus has designated Morphou as a tourist area and proposes to develop 3,000 donums of land for this purpose; further notes that 1,500 donums of Greek Cypriot-owned land will be distributed to young couples, mainly settlers from the Turkish mainland, to encourage them to remain in the area; is concerned that these proposals, if implemented, will violate the property rights of Greek Cypriot owners, are provocative and will impede progress towards a just solution of the Cyprus problem; and calls upon the Government to condemn these proposals and do all in its power to prevent their implementation.
