CEASEFIRE IMPLEMENTATION IN SRI LANKA

Tabled by Keith Vaz (Labour) 28 signatures

The motion

That this House views with concern recent clashes between Sri Lankan government forces and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, causing nearly 100,000 civilians to flee their homes in the last few weeks; notes the reports of the use of aerial bombardment by the government of Sri Lanka, putting hundreds of innocent lives at risk; believes that it would be disastrous for the people of Sri Lanka if the hostilities between both sides escalated; and calls on both sides of the conflict to respect human rights and prevent the further loss of lives, and to adhere immediately to the Ceasefire Agreement signed in 2002.
