DEFECTIVE CAR BONNET CATCH MECHANISM

That this House notes that over 1000 cases have been reported to BBC's Watchdog programme of a defective bonnet catch mechanism affecting the Renault Clio model manufactured between 1998 and 2005; expresses concern about reports that bonnets have released whilst the car has been in motion, causing serious accidents; further notes the lack of action by Renault to fully investigate and consider product recall of affected vehicle models; and calls on the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency urgently to consider whether the relevant bonnet catch mechanism is a risk to road safety requiring a direction that the affected vehicle models are recalled.
