LONDON ST. PATRICK'S DAY PARADE

Tabled by Sammy Wilson (Democratic Unionist Party) 4 signatures

The motion

That this House deplores the inclusion of the Martin Doherty Republican Flute Band from Govan in London's St. Patrick's Day Parade; notes that Martin Doherty himself was an IRA terrorist and the band was named in his honour; further notes that the people who he had been associated with had been responsible for numerous outrages in London which resulted in so many people being killed; further notes that the inclusion of such a sectarian band ensured that the St. Patrick's Day parade was not inclusive and would not be attractive to Ulster people living in London who came from a Unionist/Protestant background; deplores any public money which was spent on such an exercise; and calls for the Mayor of London to ensure that the parade is not abused in this way in the future and indeed efforts are made to make the event more inclusive.
