GLOBAL MORATORIUM ON THE DEATH PENALTY (WITHDRAWN)

Tabled by Greg Mulholland (Liberal Democrat) 38 signatures

The motion

That this House wholeheartedly supports the British Government's principled opposition to the use of the death penalty in all circumstances; is disappointed that the Government chose to block the bid by the Italian Prime Minister Romano Prodi to hold a global moratorium on the death penalty at the meeting of the EU foreign ministers in January; and calls upon the Foreign Secretary, when she meets with EU foreign ministers on 24th April, to reinforce the United Kingdom's opposition to the death penalty and to support a global moratorium.
