The motion
That this House congratulates the BBC for its in-depth investigation into the exploitation of Eastern European workers in the UK; notes Deputy Chief Constable Grahame Maxwell's contention that the conditions faced by many such workers are tantamount to modern day slavery; understands that thousands of Eastern European immigrants are being paid less than the minimum wage, are having illegal deductions taken from their pay, and are facing unacceptable and unsafe working conditions; and calls on the Government to take immediate action, and if necessary introduce emergency legislation, to prevent these abuses from continuing.
