PUBLIC HOLIDAYS IN THE UK

Tabled by Simon Hughes (Liberal Democrat) 37 signatures

The motion

That this House notes the increased level of debate about Britishness, national identity and community cohesion; further notes that St Andrew's Day is now a public holiday in Scotland and St Patrick's Day is a public holiday in Northern Ireland; and believes that St George's Day and St David's Day should also be public holidays for England and Wales respectively, and that one day a year should be set aside to celebrate the huge benefit of the United Kingdom.
