BULGARIAN AND ROMANIAN ZOOS

That this House notes with concern recent reports that highlight the deplorable conditions in many of the zoos of Romania and Bulgaria; recognises that, as member states of the European Union, both Romania and Bulgaria have a duty to ensure that the treatment of the animals and conditions within their zoos meet minimum standards; and calls on the EU to work with the Bulgarian and Romanian authorities to encourage and support the essential improvements which would guarantee the safe environment which animals in zoos deserve.
