SOUTH WEST TRAINS RAIL FARES

That this House condemns the decision of South West Trains to increase off-peak fares by around 20 per cent. from 20th May; believes that South West Trains has failed to provide an adequate business case for fare increases of this size; notes that high rail fares can only undermine the incentives to use environmentally sustainable public transport; and calls on the Government to review the regulation of rail fares so as to prevent excessive increases of this kind.
