CLUSTER MUNITIONS (No. 4)

That this House notes the report by the charity Handicap International, Circle of Impact: The fatal footprint of cluster munitions on people and communities, which reveals that some 440 million cluster bomblets have been dropped in just nine countries since 1965; is appalled that it is estimated that between 22 million and 32 million of these remain unexploded, presenting a threat to innocent civilians trying to carry on their daily lives for decades into the future; recognises that cluster bomblets, like anti-personnel mines, especially endanger children; welcomes the meeting in Lima to discuss a draft treaty to ban these bombs; and calls on the UK Government to take a lead by renouncing the use of cluster munitions and destroying the stockpiles that its defence forces hold.
