NORTHERN CYPRUS AND THE UNITED NATIONS' ANNAN PLAN
Tabled by Sir Nicholas Winterton (Conservative)

The motion
That this House recalls that the Turkish Cypriots accepted the UN's Annan Plan, which would have restored many displaced persons to their former homes and would have compensated the remainder; regrets that the Greek Cypriots rejected that Plan, which was considered by the whole world to be fair and reasonable; notes that the European Court of Human Rights has approved the property compensation scheme established by the government of northern Cyprus; and further regrets that the Greek Cypriots are seeking to extract one-sided concessions in relation to Famagusta, instead of engaging fully with the Turkish Cypriots toward a comprehensive settlement.
