The motion

That this House recognises the fundamental human rights of the Saharawi people and expresses its deep concern about the gross violations of human rights perpetrated by the Moroccan occupation authorities in Western Sahara, as documented by the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights report of 8th September 2006; notes that the self-governance proposal tabled by Morocco is in contradiction with the dictates of international legality; and calls upon the Government to make representations to the Moroccan government to respect Saharawi human rights and to maintain its active support for a just and lasting solution providing for the inalienable right of the Saharawi people to self-determination, as set out in the UN Settlement Plan and Baker Plan adopted unanimously by the Security Council.
