CENTENARY OF SIR FRANK WHITTLE, INVENTOR OF THE JET ENGINE

The motion

That this House pays tribute to the late Sir Frank Whittle on the centenary of his birth on 1st June 1907 at Coventry; acknowledges his genius and determination in inventing and developing the world's first turbo jet engine; and notes that with the support of the Royal Air Force, in which he served with distinction, and he made an outstanding and definitive contribution to the development of air transport and air warfare enhancing the critical role of engineering to the prosperity of the United Kingdom.
