DEMOCRACY DAY AND CELEBRATION OF THE 175th ANNIVERSARY OF THE GREAT REFORM ACT

The motion

That this House celebrates the 175th anniversary of the passing of the Great Reform Act, which received its Royal Assent on 7th June 1832; recognises that this Act marked the beginning of a modern parliamentary democracy; acknowledges the long political struggle of the citizens of this country and the valiant work of current hon. Members' parliamentary predecessors in achieving this famous victory; and calls on the Government to announce a national day of celebration of democracy on this day each year.
