WORLD DAY AGAINST CHILD LABOUR

That this House notes that 12th June 2007 is World Day Against Child Labour; welcomes ratification by 163 countries of the ILO Convention 182 for the elimination of the worst forms of child labour, but notes with concern that it still has not been fully implemented; further notes with concern that millions of children are still at risk of being subject to exploitative forms of work, in particular children on the move, including children who migrate alone, children of migrant families and children who are trafficked; further notes with concern that these children often end up working in hazardous conditions in agriculture, mining, construction, domestic work and that their vulnerability to exploitation is not being adequately addressed; further welcomes the work of non-governmental organisations like Save the Children in tackling and campaigning against child labour; calls for more resources at the international level to tackle the worst forms of child labour and to achieve the target of eliminating it by 2016; and further calls on the Government to increase efforts to tackle the worst forms of child labour and ensure that child labour concerns are addressed by international organisations including the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.
