CONSECRATION OF WOMEN TO THE EPISCOPATE

The motion
That this House notes that in 1993 the Ecclesiastical Committee reported to the House that it would be expedient that the Church of England Ordination of Women to the Priesthood Measure should be agreed but noted that the Measure reflected a compromise to accommodate those in the Church of England opposed to the ordination of women to the priesthood and thus made a provision for male priests who would not accept female priests; and now believes it would be expedient to agree that the Church of England should move on from that compromise and permit the consecration of women to the episcopate.
