The motion
That this House welcomes the comments by the right hon. Member for Blackburn that the National Identity Card scheme may be subject to review under a new Prime Minister; notes that the costs of the project have already risen by an extra £840 million in the last six months to £5.75 billion; further notes that the Treasury has not approved the substantive budget for the National Identity Card scheme; believes that the costs will continue to rise, placing an additional burden upon the taxpayer; and calls upon the Government to launch a full review of the National Identity Card scheme including an option to cancel the entire project.
