CHILD ROAD DEATHS

The motion
That this House regrets that the number of children who lost their lives on United Kingdom roads increased by a fifth in 2006, by 28 to 169, with deaths of child cyclists up by 55 per cent. to 31 and deaths of child pedestrians up by 13 per cent. to 71; notes that the increase in child fatalities is in contrast to a fall of one per cent. in all deaths on the roads, which last year totalled 3,172; and calls on the Government to increase its road safety activities to reduce still further the number of deaths on United Kingdom roads.
