ANNIVERSARY OF THE EQUAL FRANCHISE ACT

The motion
That this House welcomes the anniversary of the Equal Franchise Act on 2nd July which granted women the right to vote in 1928; celebrates the work of Millicent Fawcett and other campaigners who fought for the vote for women; notes that the centenary of the Act is 21 years away; commends the Fawcett Society for its new Equal Power: 2028 campaign; and calls on the Government to ensure that gender equality comes of age by taking concerted action to close the power, money and justice gaps between women and men.
