NATIONAL CLINICAL DIRECTORS

That this House notes the publication of an article in the Health Service Journal 28th June 2007, reporting that the Department of Health is considering phasing out the national clinical directors; pays particular tribute to Professor Mike Richards, National Clinical Director for Cancer, for the outstanding contribution that he has made to cancer services to date; further notes the continued need for a national clinical director for cancer to implement the forthcoming Cancer Reform Strategy and to continue to improve cancer services for patients; and urges the new Secretary of State for Health to ensure that the position of the National Clinical Director for Cancer is protected.
