DEPARTMENT FOR CULTURE, MEDIA AND SPORT REVIEW OF SPORTING LISTED EVENTS

Tabled by John Grogan (Labour) 67 signatures

The motion

That this House notes that since moving to Sky from Channel 4, viewing figures for Test Match cricket are currently around one sixth of the Channel 4 average; further notes the commitment of the Department for Culture, Media and Sport to review all listed sporting events, including cricket, around 2008-09; and, in view of the fact that the England and Wales Cricket Board is seeking to negotiate a new television contract for the years beyond 2010 next summer, urges the Government to bring forward the review of the listed events legislation to autumn 2007 in order that the case for the re-listing of the main Test Match series of the summer can be properly considered.
