ATTACKS ON FIREFIGHTERS

The motion

That this House expresses its concerns about the continued attacks on firefighters answering 999 calls; notes the recent reports in the Halifax Courier, where a firefighter described some parts of the town as no-go areas after a spate of attacks on firefighters; pays tribute to the work of the Fire Service and the Fire Brigades Union for campaigning on this issue; welcomes the introduction of the Emergency Workers (Obstruction) Act 2006; and calls on the Government to ensure that there is sufficient support and protection available for fire crews, and that anyone obstructing a firefighter is prosecuted under the new legislation.
