The motion
That this House congratulates UK scientist Sir Martin Evans and his US colleagues Professor Mario Capecchi and Professor Oliver Smithies on winning the Nobel Prize for medicine for their groundbreaking work in gene technology; and notes that gene targeting, developed from Sir Martin's embryonic stem cell research in mice, has given science unprecedented insight into human physiology and led to significant advances in the understanding and treatments of many human disorders including cardiovascular and neuro-degenerative diseases, diabetes and cancer.
