The motion

That this House supports the campaign for a statue of Mahatma Gandhi to be erected in the City of Leicester; believes that the statue would celebrate the life and work of Gandhi as a leading figure of non-violent resistance and as a champion of inter-cultural harmony and co-operation; notes that this October is the 138th anniversary of his birth; and further believes that Leicester's strong and diverse community makes it an ideal location for this statue.
