WESTMINSTER COUNCIL AND THE SEASON OF GOODWILL

Tabled by Ms Diane Abbott (Labour) 33 signatures

The motion

That this House finds it sad that, as the festive season draws near, Westminster Council demonstrates its goodwill to all men by attempting to ban the distribution of soup to homeless men and women; notes that these proposals are an attack on the churches, charities and compassionate individuals who provide this service; further notes that without this food and emotional support provided, many homeless people will be cold, hungry and friendless; further notes that, if homeless people gathering to get hot soup are genuinely causing a public order problem, then Westminster Council has other legal remedies; and urges the council to abandon its Scrooge-like position.
