LOCAL AUTHORITY FUNDING AND SOCIAL DEPRIVATION

Tabled by Mr Neil Turner (Labour) 68 signatures

The motion

That this House recognises the significant start the Government has made in meeting the needs of deprived areas in the UK, and commends it on its promise to tackle social deprivation by more effective social service provision targeting; and therefore calls upon the Government in the next Comprehensive Spending Review to allocate monies more closely in accordance with the funding formula, and to rapidly move towards ending the distortion in funding which sees local authorities with recognised high needs subsidising wealthier authorities whose needs are not so great.
