ARTS FUNDING DECISIONS

That this House welcomes the McMaster Review on supporting excellence in the arts; is pleased that the report identifies the need for professional judgement and increased involvement of artists and practitioners in decision-making; supports the rejection of top-down targets and crude box-ticking in reaching funding decisions; notes the particular concern of arts practitioners about the current process of determining funding decisions; and believes that there should be a thorough independent review of how Arts Council England operates to enable artists to have confidence in the way in which the arts is judged and funded.
