BRITISH PIG EXECUTIVE SAVE OUR BACON CAMPAIGN

Tabled by Tim Farron (Liberal Democrat) 32 signatures

The motion

That this House welcomes the Save our Bacon campaign being run by the British Pig Executive; notes that feed prices have increased by more than 100 per cent. in the past year, and that due to price pressure from supermarkets, British farmers are now being paid around £1.10 per kg for a pig that now costs them £1.44 per kg to produce, meaning that for every pig a farmer rears and sells, he is likely to lose over £20; believes the current situation to be unsustainable; and calls upon supermarkets to take the lead in setting out responsible business practice and paying a fair price for pigs, in order to support farmers across the country.
