The motion

That this House welcomes the WAKE UP campaign sponsored by the fire prevention industry, highlighting the dangers of smoke inhalation and carbon monoxide poisoning in the home; notes with extreme concern that in the case of smoke inhalation a study revealed that 94 per cent. of children did not wake when a smoke alarm was triggered; further notes that public awareness about the dangers of carbon monoxide remains low, with research showing that almost one third of people questioned were unaware of what carbon monoxide is and where it comes from; and calls for greater efforts to be made to ensure that information and advice is provided to the public.
