INDIVIDUAL FREEDOM WITHIN THE NHS
Tabled by Lord Field of Birkenhead (Crossbench)

The motion
That this House, following the death from cancer of Linda O'Boyle, who was prevented from contributing to the cost of drugs that might have prolonged her life, calls on the Government to extend individual freedom so that individuals and families are allowed more control over how and when they draw down public expenditure; and believes that cancer sufferers should be encouraged, and then not penalised, to pay for additional drugs which are prescribed for them by their NHS consultant but are not made available to them on NHS prescriptions.
