TAIWAN'S NAME IN THE BEIJING OLYMPICS

That this House calls for the Chinese government to use the established and recognised name of Taiwan (in Chinese translation `Chinese Taipei') for the Beijing Olympics; regrets that the Chinese government tries to manipulate the name of that country's sports teams to bring up the political issues of Chinese-Taiwanese relations; stresses that the name `Chinese Taipei' was agreed upon by the Olympic committees of both Taiwan and China in 1989; and opposes the Chinese intention to name Taiwan as `Taipei, China', which presents Taiwan as a part of China and violates the 1989 agreement.
