TRIBUNE

Tabled by Mr Peter Kilfoyle (Labour) 53 signatures

The motion

That this House expresses deep concern at the prospective closure of Tribune; recognises that for more than 70 years Tribune has occupied a unique position in British journalism and political life and that it has provided a home for generations of independent thinkers, writers and dissenters, a role needed now more than ever; commends Tribune's proud history in early opposition to the rise of fascism in Spain, opposition to the appeasement of Nazi Germany, the championing of Indian independence and the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, sanctions against apartheid South Africa and its support for freedom and trade union rights in eastern Europe; believes that Tribune has an important role to play as a forum for debate; and calls on its owners to explore all possible options to ensure that it survives the current crisis.
