Tabled by Colin Burgon (Labour) 23 signatures

The motion

That this House notes that the UK Government currently spends only 0.9 per cent. of GDP on higher education, 24th out of the 30 OECD nations; backs the call by Leeds University Union for the Government to raise higher education spending to a level of 1.1 per cent. of GDP in order to meet the OECD average; notes that 65 per cent. of UK students currently expect to graduate owing more than £10,000, according to a recent Times Higher Education Supplement survey; and believes that increased funding must be in place to match the Government's commitment to a world class higher education system and to reduce current excessive levels of graduate debt.
