DEMENTIA SUFFERERS

The motion

That this House supports the Alzheimer's Society's campaign to end the current system of charging for dementia patients' care, which penalises sufferers whose needs are classified as social rather than healthcare-related; recognises that people with dementia are amongst the hardest hit by charging systems because of their greater needs of support from care services, which deliver specifics such as help with eating, washing and toileting; and calls upon the Government to ensure that the essential needs of dementia sufferers are fully recognised in any future care and support mechanism catering for their needs.
