HM REVENUE AND CUSTOMS RESTRUCTURING

Tabled by Sir Alan Meale (Labour) 24 signatures

The motion

That this House is aware that HM Revenue and Customs' programme of closing local offices such as those within the East Midlands area, particularly the one in Mansfield, is causing undue stress to the loyal and hardworking staff in this part of the Department, the majority of whom are female, many with childcare or other caring responsibilities; recognises the difficulties facing these staff in particular in finding other places to work within reasonable travelling distance from their homes; is concerned that some experienced staff are also facing being down-graded in their employment status or forced into unsuitable job roles that they are neither qualified nor trained to do because of the proposals; considers that such restructuring moves are unfair, uneconomic, illogical and are putting quality local services at risk; and calls upon the Government to call a halt to the present mayhem involved, or at the very least ensure that staff do not continue to be so unfairly treated.
