The motion

That this House notes that the current financial crisis has led to the rising cost of people's utility bills such as gas and electricity; applauds the Government's recent action, introducing measures to help people this winter; commends the Warm Homes Scheme which helps ensure thousands of people can heat their homes this winter; further notes with worry that many people not included in this scheme could suffer fuel poverty as a result of rising bills; urges the Government to curb excessive price increases by private utility companies by removing the cost of VAT from energy bills; asks that the Government does so with immediate effect so that people can heat their homes this winter without worrying whether they can pay their bills; and further notes that this action would benefit thousands of people and will help keep them warm this winter.
