STATUS OF WESTERN SAHARA

That this House recalls that at 9.00am on 16th October 1975, the International Court of Justice delivered its Advisory Opinion on the Western Sahara, upholding the right of self-determination of the people of Western Sahara; welcomes the public reading of the said opinion at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) organised by Sandblast, a UK-based arts organisation and the Centre for the Study of Colonialism, Empire and International Law at SOAS to remind the international community of its duty; and urges the UK Government to to play a full part in ensuring that the Saharawi people are able finally to exercise their right to self-determination after 33 years.
