COPYRIGHT TERM FOR PERFORMERS

The motion

That this House welcomes the Government's commitment to consider the arguments for an extension of copyright term for performers; agrees that there is a moral case for performers benefiting from their work throughout their entire lifetime; believes that greater life expectancy means that an extension in copyright terms is appropriate; notes that any extension must deliver maximum benefit for performers and ensure content is available to consumers; further notes that performers' rights apply to performances recorded in sound recordings, broadcasts and films; and calls on the Government to support amendments that would lead to such a change for all such performers at a future meeting of the European Council.
