JOE CALZAGHE

That this House congratulates Joe Calzaghe, based in Newbridge, Gwent, on his retirement from the boxing ring as the undefeated super-middleweight and light-heavyweight champion; notes with pleasure that he recorded 46 wins from 46 fights and was also voted as 2007 BBC Sports Personality of the Year; looks forward to Joe Calzaghe now dedicating his time to helping other athletes in the South East Wales Valleys and wider afield in the United Kingdom achieve their best in their chosen sport; and wishes Joe Calzaghe and his father, Enzo, Joe's former trainer, further success in their new roles in promoting charity work and in boxing promotion.
