A27 POLEGATE-LEWES ROAD

Tabled by David Bellotti (Liberal Democrat) 2 signatures

The motion

That this House recognises and supports the need for an upgrading of the A27 Polegate to Lewes road but condemns the over-engineering options put forward by the Department of Transport to meet these needs; notes that many of the proposed double decker junctions and massive bridges and viaducts would be in areas of outstanding natural beauty and would ruin uniquely unspoilt river valleys in the South Downs; and believes more environmentally acceptable options should be published and be subject to a full environmental impact assessment as defined in European Community Directive 85/357/EC, and that the results of such assessments be subject to full public consultation before a preferred route is chosen.
