CENTRICA'S PROFITS

The motion
That this House notes the announcement by Centrica of profits of 1.98 billion, equivalent to 60 per second; recognises that these extortionate profits are being made at a time when people and businesses are struggling to pay their energy bills, particularly at a time of economic downturn; further notes that gas prices have not been reduced in line with the fall in oil prices; and, given the false promises from energy companies that bills would fall, calls on the Government to impose a windfall levy on the excessive profits of the energy companies.
