The motion

That this House congratulates E. Rex Makin on the 60th anniversary of his qualifying as a solicitor; notes that in his long career he has been involved in many high profile cases of local, national and international interest including the Cameo murders and the Hillsborough and Heysel stadium disasters, and was legal adviser to Brian Epstein, whom he advised on contractual arrangements for the Beatles, and was credited with the coining of the term Beatlemania; further notes that he also represented the interests of countless ordinary Liverpudlians, and that this and his beneficence to cultural and educational causes in Liverpool has been recognised by the award of the Freedom of the City of Liverpool and an honorary professorship at Liverpool John Moores University; and at risk of being mentioned in his weekly Liverpool Echo column, Makin his Point, salutes him as a Liverpool legend in his lifetime.
