The motion
That this House reaffirms its support for the negotiating process in South Africa, which it hopes will lead to a genuine end to apartheid and the creation of a united, non-racial and democratic South Africa; welcomes the progess which has been made towards achieving this goal by the Convention for a Democratic South Africa; expresses its grave concern that the all-white referendum on 17th March could lead to a slowing down or reversal of the negotiating process; recognises that such an outcome of this referendum could lead to the renewed isolation of South Africa and the reimposition of sanctions; and therefore urges Her Majesty's Government to demonstrate it support for negotiations leading to a genuinely democratic constitution and to promote vigorously such a policy.
