1984 TO 1985 MINERS STRIKE

Tabled by Mr Michael Clapham (Labour) 60 signatures

The motion

That this House recalls the Miners Strike of 1984 to 1985 began on 9 March in response to the National Coal Board's decision to butcher the coal industry; believes it was the most important industrial struggle fought by the British Labour Movement since the Second World War and that the National Union of Mineworkers deserves respect for its nobility in fighting against the odds; and believes that it took the election of a Labour Government in 1997 to rebuild broken mining communities.
