CHRISTIE CHARITY AND THE FINANCIAL SERVICES COMPENSATION SCHEME (No. 2)

Tabled by Tony Lloyd (Labour) 36 signatures

The motion

That this House expresses grave concern at the decision of the Financial Services Authority's compensation scheme to refuse to reimburse the charity of Manchester's renowned Christie cancer hospital; recalls that this charity suffered the loss of 6.5 million with the collapse of the Kaupthing, Singer and Friedlander bank; recognises that these monies represent the many small donations from countless individuals who gave to show gratitude for the wonderful work of Christie hospital for themselves, their family and friends, or simply in recognition of that work; regrets that the loss of these monies will lead to a reduction in current life-saving research programmes and the cancellation of a 50 million joint research development with the University of Manchester; and calls on the Financial Services Authority and Treasury Ministers to review this decision in order to prevent these unacceptable consequences.
