MIDLAND METRO

That this House congratulates the vast majority of mainly Conservative honourable Members and the promoters of the Midland Metro Act passed during this Parliament, despite the many technical objections by Opposition honourable Members, and their small numbers, in support of this measure and of the Midland Metro Bill and Midland Metro (No. 2) Bill, thus allowing in future travel on clean, silent, pollution-free, comfortable, fast and environment-friendly light electric trains between Birmingham, Wednesbury, Walsall, Wolverhampton and Dudley and the International Convention Centre, the University, the Queen Elizabeth Centre, the city centre including the General Hospital, Birmingham Heartlands, the Waterlinks development along the A38 and the routing across the M6 via Aston, Erdington and Chelmesley Wood and hopes that the route through to the NEC and Birmingham International Station and International Airport will shortly proceed; and notes the main sponsor further looks forward to the future when the people of Yardley, Sheldon, Acocks Green, Tyseley and Hay Mills may similarly examine, decide and vote upon whether or not they wish to enjoy a similar exciting public transport system and whether, if affirmative, a preferred environmentally satisfactory route or underground route should be chosen.
